Waking Up Sleeping Beauty

So today a friend of mine and I decided to watch a documentary I found on iTunes called 'Waking Sleeping Beauty.' This documentary is about the Renaissance era of Disney Studios Animation department and the progression from flops in the company such as The Black Cauldron to successes like The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. This documentary also highlighted the executive changes made to the company and the amount of ego that is involved in the company. Personally I have a new appreciation for The Little Mermaid and Howard Ashman. If you didn't know Howard Ashman and Alan Menken both wrote "Part of Your World", "Under the Sea", "Be our Guest", and countless other songs in The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. Howard Ashman is amazing in many ways considering he had such a love for Broadway and musical productions. He passed away of HIV... I just... there are no words to describe the strength and enthusiasm Ashman seemed to have. If you have the opportunity to rent this documentary I believe its $2.99 on iTunes and definitely worth it if you want a more in depth look behind Disney's curtain at the Animation department.
