Walt Disney Museum

This past weekend my family and I went to San Francisco for an early birthday present. We went to the Street Food Park and The Walt Disney Museum.

The Street Food Park was amazing! My family and I saw this particular park on Food Truck Wars and have wanted to go ever since. My sister and I both got a Sushi Roll, my dad got a pork nacho platter (basically a heart attack waiting to happen), and my mother got sliders with the best fries I've ever had!

After lunch we headed to the Walt Disney Museum across town. The museum is in The Presidio of San Francisco and it is GORGEOUS! It was one of the those amazing San Francisco days, cloudy and perfect temperature.

The Walt Disney museum started with Walt's life from birth all the way to his untimely death. It was amazing being able to see the background that Walt came from. When I talked to my father after the visit he said he loved that Walt narrated the entire exhibit. Walt having a television show every week and doing countless interviews talked about his life from birth, getting into the film industry, Disneyland, and Walt Disney World. The museum was then able to use all of the recordings to narrate guests along in Walt's voice so it felt like he was leading us all along. All the memorabilia from the Walt Disney Company was mesmerizing. The museum also emphasized animation and the amount of dedication it takes to make a movie. I loved hearing interviews done with the women who worked in the painting department. They had the jars of paint specifically used for filling in the stills. The amount of dedication given toward each single frame was amazing to witness and there was such a lovely feeling to see the history of Walt Disney and his magnificent company.

On the lower floor we were ushered into the beautiful area dedicated for Disneyland and Walt's television shows. They had this huge diorama of Disneyland from the past and present. They also had a car on display from Autotopia.

Overall it was a lovely day. The staff were so friendly and full of history. This is a must see for anyone who has an appreciation for animation and Walt Disney. The Walt Disney Museum is filled with so much that is guaranteed to help you learn something new every time you visit.

Saving Mr. Banks

Since the delightful trailer with clips from the 'practically perfect' Mary Poppin's movie sprung onto my theater screen, I have been enthralled with everything that is said about this enchanting movie. From my intent Pinterest searching and pinning I've found some portrayals that were skewed (something that commonly happens) in order to make the film have a happy ending.

One hiccup was that P.L Travers bawled at the premiere of Mary Poppins because she hated it so much. She walked out of the theater she couldn't finish the movie! She was appalled nothing was as she had intended or imagined Mary Poppins to be.
She couldn't believe that Walt Disney had added animation to a film that she insisted would have no animation. She also couldn't stand many of the other choices Walt Disney made regarding Bert (Dick Van Dyke) and the children.

Walt Disney World @ Christmas

So I've decided to go through my week in Bay Lake, Florida. I'm a bit of a control freak so when my parents decided to surprise me and my sister with a trip to Disney World at Christmas time,I was freaked out. They told me in October giving me only 2 months to plan the perfect Disney World trip allowing us only one day per park. I began an itinerary that would include the rides we HAD to go on, shows we HAD to see, fast passes and ride time requirements that were needed to get the maximum amount of Disney magic each day. Needless to say my family went a bit crazy with my strict list and itinerary but I was prepared.

I decided maybe out there in the big wide world of the internet there may be a crazy control freak like myself who was given crazy restrictions of one day per park, AND at Christmas time no less. So I will be posting my itinerary here along with memories or photos from my trip.

Hope you enjoy and possibly find somethings that works.

Our flight that night leaving from San Francisco was at 10 pm!

Waking Up Sleeping Beauty

So today a friend of mine and I decided to watch a documentary I found on iTunes called 'Waking Sleeping Beauty.' This documentary is about the Renaissance era of Disney Studios Animation department and the progression from flops in the company such as The Black Cauldron to successes like The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. This documentary also highlighted the executive changes made to the company and the amount of ego that is involved in the company. Personally I have a new appreciation for The Little Mermaid and Howard Ashman. If you didn't know Howard Ashman and Alan Menken both wrote "Part of Your World", "Under the Sea", "Be our Guest", and countless other songs in The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, and Aladdin. Howard Ashman is amazing in many ways considering he had such a love for Broadway and musical productions. He passed away of HIV... I just... there are no words to describe the strength and enthusiasm Ashman seemed to have. If you have the opportunity to rent this documentary I believe its $2.99 on iTunes and definitely worth it if you want a more in depth look behind Disney's curtain at the Animation department.

In honor of my new love for The Little Mermaid I found these wonderful boys Enjoy :)

Welcome

Welcome to Tales of a Disney Addict
So introductions are in order. My name is Emilee and I'm a Disney Addict. I live in Northern California and I'm attending Simpson University. The first time I went to Disneyland I was 5 years old and since then I've become an addict. I recently went to Walt Disney World in December for Christmas and that permanently cemented my love for Walt and all his imagineers.Plus my Pinterest boards were filling up with Disney pins and it was becoming a daily thing where I would start thinking about Disney. My goal is to share my love of Disney with others and I just feel the need to have my positive energy of the Walt Disney Company go out into the world. So... to all who come to this happy place... Welcome.
